The First 100 Years
The Terang Co-operative Society has published a histor of its first 100 years. The co-operative was established in Terang, Victoria in 1908. Bill Quinlan, the former manager of the Warrnambool Co-operative before it was wound-up, says this about the Terang co-operative: "The Terang Co-op is a tremendous success. A hundred years is a long time, especially when you consider the landscape is littered with the bones of other failed co-operatives. In the last decade or so in particular it has done very well, but the management at Terang has never lost sight of the importance of listening to what the members have to say and being guided by their wishes and wants. And the staff is just as important as the members - a lot of businesses don't realise that, you need to have almost a family relationship. It's all about ownership. If people feel they are being appreciated and getting a fair go, then they will be loyal to the business."
