    Tasmanian Co-ops are meeting with relevant decision-makers to support the passage of the national co-operatives legislation in Tasmania

    Three co-operative members from Tasmania attended the IYC conference in Port Macquarie in October.

    The International Year of Co-operatives, or IYC, celebrates a different way of doing business, one focused on human need not human greed, where the members (who own and govern the business) collectively enjoy the benefits instead of all profits going just to shareholders.

  5. Tasmanian Co-operatives

    The co-operative sector in Tasmania is made up of producer, worker, housing, artist and purchasing co-operatives.

    A coalition of co-operatives are working with Co-operatives Victoria to

    1. celebrate the International Year of Co-operatives by providing co-operatives with an opportunity to share with each other their achievements and lessons to date

    2. provide government and the broader community with information about the strengths and weaknesses of co-operatives, and what socio-economic advantages they present.

    3. encourage greater knowledge about co-operatives in Tasmania and nurture a vibrant culture of skill development, collaborative leadership and social enterprise.

    4. increase education about co-operatives - particularly in law, economics, accounting and business.
